Two-Minute Read: Stop Crowdsourcing for Interior Design Advice

Stop Crowdsourcing for Interior Design Advice

My entire blog is based on my opinions about interior design, parenting, and the like. I enjoy projecting what I think on these topics regardless of if others agree or disagree. I’m not asking for permission to have my own opinions. I actively share my thoughts on these topics with the world and even with that in mind, I will be the first to say that you should not crowdsource for interior design advice.

Once upon a time, I was a foolish young adult who formulated everything that I did based on what was desirable by the masses. From my physical appearance to my music interests, I was under the influence of others’ opinions. It was hard for me to express my own opinions because like many of you – I didn’t want to be judged.

At some point I realized that I had to get out of my circle of influence. I decided “fuck that shit,” and I haven’t looked back since. As Karl Lagerfeld once said, “Trendy is the last stage before tacky.” So screw being trendy.

Interior design fads and trends eventually die out, just like all other trends. You should never feel pressured to execute a design trend in your own space because others value it. If you don’t value it, then walk away. It’s not worthy of your money, energy, or attention.

The bottom line is this – you are the one who will live in your space – therefore, your opinion is the only one that matters. With that in mind, say fuck everything else. That’s just my two-cents.
